Back To School
Back To School
So here we are in September again and its back to school time. I will once again be teaching this term at
- Brewood C OF E Middle School
- St Johns CE (VC) First School Bishops wood
- St Michael’s First School Penkridge
I will be attending a “Meet The Tutors Evening” at Brewood C OF E Middle School Thursday 13th September 2018. Hopefully I will get to meet some of you there. I will have one of my students playing on the evening. Last year I had a record number of students passing guitar exams. That is a record I will be looking to break this year.
New This Term
This term I will be moving away from Rockschool exams for electric guitar players, and focusing on Trinity College Rock & Pop Exams. These are much more fun than Rockschool exams. As you get to learn well known songs, and not just made up tunes for exam purposes. I have posted some videos of some of the pieces on my YouTube channel, which you can check out by clicking here. You will also find some videos on there of some of my students playing. Alongside videos of me covering well known songs, and even some music from my album A J Green UK that was released last year. Which you can purchase by clicking here or check it out on Spotify and all other good music streaming services. so if you are a “YouTuber” please subscribe.
New this term I will also be offering Bass guitar lessons, and for students wanting to take exams they will also be following the Trinity College Rock & Pop Syllabus.
I will still be teaching the Registry Of Guitar Syllabus for those wanting to take exams on acoustic guitars. These exams can be entered by going to an examination centre or by video submission. This proves very popular because if the student makes a mistake we can just record it again. These videos are done with the parent present and in my home studio in Bilbrook.
What Guitar Do I Need ?
Every time I do a “Meet The Tutors Evening” I get asked this question. So I am going to try to answer this now with some links of recommended guitars. For children at primary and middle school I would generally recommend 3/4 size guitars. Although full size guitars are fine depending how tall the child is. It is best for acoustic guitars to have nylon strings. These are not so hard as steel strings on the child’s fingers. Feel free to shop around but generally Martin Smith are relatively cheap and good guitars for a young beginner. please click here
For those going for electric guitars have a look at this click here . Please take into consideration for an electric guitar you will also need an amplifier and lead.
The main thing every student will need though is time to practise. 10 -15 minutes per day is all it takes to become a great guitar player.
If you require any further advice please don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an E- Mail. I look forward to a great new term and maybe meeting some of you in Brewood September 13th
