Guitar Lessons Available for the New School Term
New School Term
As the new school term kicks off, I’m excited to offer guitar lessons at the following schools:
- Brewood CE Middle Academy
- St. Michael’s First School, Penkridge
There will be a “Meet the Tutors” evening at Brewood CE Middle Academy on Tuesday, September 25th. I look forward to meeting you there! During this event, I’ll provide a brief overview of the guitar lessons I offer. I will also be showing a short video and be there to answer any questions you may have.
I will also visit St. Michael’s First School Monday 16th September. During these visits, I’ll host a short music workshop and distribute letters to students interested in learning guitar.
Guitar Lessons Pricing for This Term:
- £10.00 for 20-minute lessons this is the same as last year.
Lessons will take place during school hours, and student schedules will rotate to ensure they don’t miss the same class each week. In addition to guitar playing, I will also be teaching your child music reading.
Exams?
This term, students can work toward two types of exams:
- Trinity College Rock & Pop exams for electric guitar, conducted at an exam center with an official examiner or through video upload.
- Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT) at London College of Music Exams for acoustic guitar, with the option to submit through video upload, allowing students to record their performance until they’re satisfied.
What You’ll Need to Play Guitar
For beginners, a ¾ size acoustic guitar with nylon strings is recommended. These guitars are affordable, offer great value for money, and don’t require an amplifier like electric guitars. As your child grows and if they continue to enjoy playing, that’s the perfect time to upgrade to a full-size electric or larger acoustic guitar.
It’s important to remember that learning an instrument requires time and dedication, so it’s not necessary to invest heavily in the first guitar. If your child shows a strong interest in playing, they can work towards earning that shiny new electric guitar.

While a guitar can be purchased without a case for a lower price, it’s advisable to get a case for easy transport to and from school. Nylon strings are gentler on a child’s fingers, allowing them to develop strength and resilience over time. Steel strings, on the other hand, can be harsher, often causing sore fingers early on, which might discourage them from practicing.
