A J Green award winning Guitar Tutor. A J Green has been awarded the Midlands Enterprise Award for guitar tutor of the year 2021.

Midlands Enterprise Awards Scheme aims to be a thorough, robust representation of the ‘crème de la crème’ of business throughout the Midlands. As they say, ‘the cream rises to the top’ and when faced with the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought, this saying has never been truer.

When the pandemic hit in March 2020 it literally threw the music industry into turmoil. Face to face teaching had to stop and all gigs were cancelled. Anthony had to think and act quickly to continue lessons. He had never given online lessons before and knew very little about what was involved. After looking at a few platforms to deliver online guitar lessons he believed he had found the best platform available.

Online Guitar Lessons

After finding the best platform he needed to get the best equipment around him. Equipment was in short supply at the start of the pandemic. As more and more people took to going online to communicate. He was kindly loaned a webcam to get started. And also managed to purchase a professional quality microphone, as well as what is recognised as one of the best webcams on the market. He wanted the lessons to be as close to face to face lessons as possible. However there was still hurdles to get over. In a face to face lesson He would write out or print off any music that a student was working on.

Technology

Anthony did some research and found a program that allowed him to type in music, chord boxes and tabalature. This could then be sent as a PDF file so the student could print it off. The program he uses also converts the written music to MP3 too. That could also be sent along with a PDF via Email to the student. Due to having students at all different levels. Anthony spent countless hours, often into the early hours of the morning writing up music.

Video

Lessons were at a standard that Anthony was fairly happy with. The student was now receiving written music and tablature to print off and also an MP3 file. To take this a step further he wanted to add video too it too. This would be the final icing on the cake. After some research he found a way of achieving this goal. Students would be sent a link that enabled to see a video of Anthony playing the piece they were leaning. They would also get the written music on the screen with the tablature. Also the ability to slow down the piece of music and also loop and sections that they needed to. On top of this it also slows down the video and you can also zoom in on Anthony playing. The Future

Over the next few weeks Anthony will hopefully be slowly inviting people back to face to face lessons. The studio is now fitted with a new air conditioner unit. There is also be a sneeze screen between Anthony and the student. Some students are happy to stay online to save travelling. Anthony now had the opportunity to teach people further afield and has given lessons to someone in Majorca. He is also teaching students that have also moved away to universities. It has been a massive learning curve with many hours of time to give you the best online learning experience possible.
