Studio Day 3
Studio day 3 and Slade Legend Jim Lea pops in. We had a good chat for about an hour and half about just about everything from music to local pubs. Jim told me he grew up in Bilbrook. It was great to see him. When he walked in the studio his first words were. I know you don’t I we have met before.
Kemper
The main object of studio day 3 was to set up my Kemper and re-amp guitars that i had recorded at home into Logic pro. The Kemper emulates your favourite amps. But this isn’t quite like a modelling amp; rather than model a sound from scratch, it profiles the sound.
It can analyse any amp, cab or rig and immediately reproduce the tone. Not only that, but you get heaps of popular and classic profiles right out the box. Once you’ve picked or created your profile, you can then tweak by adding effects, tweaking EQ, amp settings and much more. It is ideal for studio work. I also use my Kemper for live shows. Align Tracks
Time was also spent to realign tracks that had been transferd over from Logic Pro to Pro Tools. These are what are known as DAWs Digital Audio Workstation. The software used for recording and editing. Recording at home to Logic Pro then transfering to Pro Tools in the studio I think is a quicker way and stress free way of recording. Drums will be recorded in the studio and also vocal tracks. There are just a couple of tracks that need the treatment of alignment now.
Next Step
The next steps will be to record vocals and drums. I also want to re-record a bass line on one of the songs as it sounds too sparse and want a more driving bass line on the track. There is one track that I had originally planned to have a saxophone on. However this will now be a guitar solo. I don’t know what order this will take place. There is a list of things left to do. I will try to find time to update this in October after my 4th day.
What Else is Happening??
Now the School holidays are over I will soon be returning to teach in Schools. I am just waiting to confirm a date to go into St Michael’s in Penkridge to do a seminar. There is a date in the diary for Brewood CE Middle Academy for a meet the tutors evening 28th September. Private guitar lessons in Bilbrook / Wolverhampton are now also back to normality after the pandemic.
